Citation Managers
Not sure which citation manager to use?
RefWorks
RefWorks is available through Laupus Library’s institutional subscription. References can be arranged in folders to easily share with others. The Find IT! button permits linking to the articles in the bibliography, and PDFs can be uploaded. Tools include a RefGrab-It button to capture citation details and a Word plug-in for creating in-text citations. Bibliographies are easily generated, and users can choose from hundreds of styles or create their own.
Flow
Use the “Save to Flow” button to capture citation details and fulltext copies of articles. It is possible to highlight lines and/or add sticky notes to the PDF articles. Additional tools include a Word add-on and a Google Docs add-on for in-text citations.
Zotero
Zotero is an easy-to-use PDF and citation manager. Zotero is available in both a web-based and a desktop version and is notable for two reasons: 1) ease of importing citations; and 2) the social features which permit users to form groups and share citations quickly and easily with others. A Word plug-in enables easy citing while you write, and more than 6,000 citation styles are available
Mendely
Mendely is an easy-to-use reference manager that will sync your PDF library across its Web version, your desktop version, and your iPad version. Features include: uploading PDFs and arranging them in folders, sharing citations with others, forming and joining groups, and viewing other Mendeley users’ profiles. Mendeley also has a Word plug-in that will generate in-text citations.
EndNote Basic
EndNote Basic is a citation manager similar to RefWorks. It works best as a companion to your personal desktop purchase of EndNote*, especially for importing files of references.
*ECU Libraries does not have a campus license to EndNote.
