New Andrew A. Best Exhibit

Laupus Library History Collections recently installed a new exhibit on the 4^th floor of the library entitled, Andrew A. Best, M.D.: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a Local Civil Rights Leader and Medical Trailblazer. The exhibit celebrates the life of Andrew Best, a local African American physician who also served the humanitarian needs of the area.

Dr. Best helped orchestrate the desegregation of what is now East Carolina University, the Greenville business community, and Pitt County Memorial Hospital (now Vidant Medical Center). He was also a strong proponent of preventive medicine and worked to educate the community about basic hygiene. He practiced medicine in Greenville from 1954 until shortly before his passing in 2005.

This exhibit features artifacts and archival materials from the Andrew A. Best Papers at Laupus Library. Andrew A. Best, M.D.: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a Local Civil Rights Leader and Medical Trailblazer will be on display until May 10, 2020.
