Upcoming Voyages of Discovery Lecture on Tuesday January 31
The Medical History Interest Group invites you to attend the Lawrence F. Brewster History Lecture in the 10th Anniversary Season of the Voyages of Discovery Lecture Series.
Keith Wailoo, Townsend Martin Professor of History and Public Affairs at Princeton University, will present “Pain: A Political History,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, in Wright Auditorium.
Wailoo is an award-winning author who writes about drugs and drug policy; race, science and health; history of medicine; and health policy and medical affairs in the U.S. Currently, he is working on two book-length projects, both intersecting with history and public policy: a study of the menthol cigarette and a history of addiction. His lecture will touch on the battle over whose pain is real and who deserves relief, which has created stark ideological divisions at the bedside, in politics, and in the courts.
