New Exhibit: Development of the Smallpox Vaccine
A new Laupus Library History Collections exhibit has been installed near the elevators on the second floor: The Development of the Smallpox Vaccine.
The exhibit provides a brief overview of smallpox and highlights landmarks in the development of the vaccine and the fight for eradication of the disease.
Featured artifacts include vaccine bottles and bifurcated needles that would have been used to administer the vaccine. Historical works on display include an 1802 edition of Edward Jenner’s treatise on cowpox sufferers.
The exhibit is on display from July 15 through the end of August.
To learn more about the exhibit and related artifacts, manuscripts, and printed works, come by the Laupus Library History Collections located on the 4th floor of the library or contact one of the members of the department to schedule a tour or a reference appointment.
