Museum to host free screenings

The Country Doctor Museum in Bailey will host the North Carolina Lions’ Mobile Screening Unit on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Free vision and hearing screenings will be offered for ages 6 and up.

The Nash County Health Department will also be on site offering free blood sugar and blood pressure checks from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

The free screenings are sponsored jointly by the Rocky Mount Evening Lions Club, the Nash County Health Department, Wilson Eye Associates and the Country Doctor Museum.

Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign their registration form. A Spanish interpreter will be available. No appointment is necessary, and complimentary refreshments will be provided.

Created in 1967, the Country Doctor Museum is the oldest museum in the United States dedicated to the history of American’s rural health care. It showcases more than 5,000 medical artifacts and volumes of historic texts relevant to the practice of medicine between the late 18th century and the first half of the 20th century. Nursing, pharmaceuticals and home remedies are also included.
