New Exhibit: Where in the World is Dr. Pittman?

The Country Doctor Museum has a new exhibit on display in Brody School of Medicine, blending history, travel, medicine, and whimsy!


Where in the World is Dr. Pittman? takes viewers along on Dr. Newson Jones Pittman’s journey through European centers of medical discovery, such as Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Prussia, and Paris, documented in his 1851-1853 journals (CD01.53).

Pittman returned to Pitt County in 1853, bringing home his newfound knowledge of healthcare to Eastern North Carolina, serving his community for decades as a country doctor and contributing to local healthcare and civic life.

Highlights of the exhibit include excerpts from his travel journals, historical medical illustrations and photographs, and innovative medical instruments of the time. In addition to learning about his studies, you can hone your eagle eye to find the elusive Dr. Pittman hiding among the backdrop of each case (just look for the dapper man in the purple!)
